Nile Petroleum
The Nile Petroleum Company was established in 1954, and was known then as the Egyptian French Company for Petroleum. It passed during the past period through a number of trade names as a branch of Caltex Company, then as a branch for Tootal International Company, to be known later on as the Nile Company for Oil Import and Trade, within a partnership with the Government of Sudan in 1978.According to that partnership
the Government owned 75% of the Company shares. In 1003 the Nile Petroleum Company became 100% Government owned, when the Government- as represented by the Ministries of Energy and Finance- came to buy the remaining shares.

The Nile Petroleum Company is considered to be the sole arm for the Ministry of Energy and Mining in distributing and marketing petroleum products in all their various types. It provides this service to all consumption sectors through an integrated system in respect of storage and delivery from its main depots in Al-Jaili, Al-Shjara and Port Sudan. These depots are characterized by their high capacities that enable them to meet all services of reception, direct sales, hosting or delivery, at a very high standard of technical and technological efficiency that is represented in tanks with high storage capacity, and in the modern pumping system for delivery through a network of electronic meters. Due to the technology and high speed, these meters are capable of meeting all logistic operations, through highly trained, experienced and skilled workers. Such experiences and skills were attained through internal and external worker training programs which keep pace with all new developments in the fields of technology, distribution and marketing of petroleum products. In addition to all that the programs comply with all directives and full safety systems for workers and technical equipment, as well as the rules and procedures of safety and professional health which conform to the Government and Safety Administrations directives. This qualified the Company to acquire the ISO Certificates

Nile Petroleum is the leading downstream oil company in Sudan and strong regional player in East Africa that;




Making use of these advanced technical and logistic facilities, the Nile Petroleum Company was able to go into contracts for providing services and delivery of products to all parts of the Sudan, with over 65% of the companies working in the field of land transport of petroleum and liquid products. In addition to that, the company had also entered into contracts with the Railways Corporation to transport fuel for the National Electricity Corporation Stations in the Capital and the States. In the same way it uses River Transport means from Kosti Docks to the Southern States, and transports packed products by air to some of the remote areas of Sudan to deliver this service to the consumers there.

The Company has a network of service stations for distributing petroleum products in the National Capital. These stations are established in a modern pattern that beautifies the Capital and falls in harmony with the various beautification projects that had covered the three- town Capital. These stations provide service around the clock. In addition to that there are the other service stations for car wash, lubrication, tire services, provision of oils and lubricants. These are distributed all through the National Capital, in addition to its stations which are geographically distributed over the various States and regions of the Sudan. These are considered to be outlets for direct sales to the Public, for hosting or for storage and delivery for circles that have large amounts of products to distribute to sectors belonging to them or as logistics for Organizations like the United Nations, Road Companies, Electricity Stations or to some important Strategic Sectors such as Petroleum Companies like Petrodar and others.

Through its Customer Service Administration, the Company provides the Comprehensive Sale Service to facilitate and simplify procedures, a step which was commended by all the Company clients in all their different categories. The Company seeks also to adopt a door-to-door service to provide its distinguished services to its permanent Public through its depots and stations in the States, making use of its high storage capacities in those sites, and through its contracts with efficient Transport Companies to deliver products to those regions at a suitable speed and without any losses in quantity or time. The Company will also provide its distinctive services to the Public and to the important strategic sectors like Electricity Stations, Sugar Factories, Irrigated and Mechanical Agricultural Sectors, Irrigation Institutes, Roads and Bridges, Service Sectors, Security and the various projects in progress. It will also participate in the delivery and measurement of petroleum products and their packing, maintenance of pumps and meters, testing and revising safety regulations and directives, fighting fires, use of early warning equipment, operating the fire pump and fire extinguishers, the safe evacuation of sites in case of emergencies in its main depots or in clients' sites. This is done in coordination with Civil Defense Administrations and the Safety Administrations in the Sudanese Petrol Institution in an effort to promote security and monitoring awareness among its esteemed clients. In addition to that, the Company is keen on providing loading and unloading workers with protective clothes and safety shoes.

In respect of marketing liquefied petrol gas, the Company provides its services to the consumers through the major depots in Al-Jaili, Al-Shajara, Port Sudan and Wad Medani, in addition to ten Regional depots distributed over all Sudanese States to deliver this service through gas cylinders in their various capacities of (4, 6, 12.5, 25, and 45 kilograms) from the Nile Gas Distribution Centers in the Capital and the States.

In conformity with the Government's directives which aim at naturalizing liquefied gas services as an alternative for charcoal and wood as a source of domestic energy, the Company provides liquefied gas services for bakeries in an effort to stop tree –felling and desertification and to protect environment in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations for Greeneries. The Company distributes gas tanks for the bakeries sector free of charge, and provides the delivery service from its main depots to assist in providing clean and healthy bread for the Public. This comes through commercial agreements and through coordination with the major companies working in marketing and distributing wheat flour such as Siga and Wheata Companies. It seeks also to promote and increase the area of distribution and to spread this service in all the Sudanese States.

The Company also obligates its cylinder distributors to promote house delivery service at the prices set by the Sudanese Petrol Institution.

It is worth mentioning that the Company, through partnership with each of GAPCO and Aman Companies, and through Consortium of GECO (gas export Company), had exported the surplus gas from Al-Jaili Refinery through Port Sudan.

In a step towards Regionalization, the Company established a branch in the sisterly Ethiopia. It had started now, through its depots in Addis Ababa, to perform the operation of mixing ethanol with benzene imported from Sudan. This came as the first Regional incident and a successful experiment in Ethiopia that shall be generalized in all Ethiopian Regions on account that it is a biological fuel that is quite friendly to the Environment,

In addition to that the Ethiopian Branch performs marketing gas and cylinders to the Public, and provides hosting services for products of some Ethiopian Companies. Due to its service stations in inside and outside of Addis Ababa, the Company is capable of providing sales services in addition to distributing the German 'Fuchs' lubricants inside Ethiopia.
